NOVEMBER 10, 2022

We are one week away from starting our high school season.

On Wednesday, November 16, we will have our annual parent meeting. The athletic department requests that at least one parent is present at all annual preseason meetings. The meeting will be at 6:00pm and take place in the team meeting room in the middle of the CHS Fieldhouse. We will go over the schedule and events. The booster club plans to be able to deliver the Spirit Wear presales on this night as well. After the meeting, we will go to the wrestling room and have a brief rules clinic and a couple of varsity challenge matches.

Our first meet, the Round-Up, will be Friday, November 18th. This meet will be during the day and it will take place in our Indoor football field in the CHS Fieldhouse.

I will send out meet info specifics early every week of competition.

Next Friday is also our annual Canned Food Drive. Our wrestlers collect food donations and the opposing teams all participate as well. There is no spectator fee when you in a food donation.

We have new wrestlers joining us from fall sports. I will attach the competition schedules. Also, as mentioned a few weeks ago, we strongly encourage mouth guards. The boys varsity squad will all be wearing some this season. I recommend www.sisuguard.com. The company has offered us free shipping and a 15% discount. Use this code during checkout: TS-Coppell15

Looking ahead, We will practice over the Thanksgiving break. All teams will practice Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings. Varsity will practice on Friday morning as well. We will send out specific times next week.

Below is a letter from our Booster Club volunteer coordinator, Jodi De Santiago. We ask that every family join the booster club and volunteer. We do not sell anything for fundraising and we do not participate in those email and phone money drives that fundraising companies promote. We make our funds from our membership and our events. We need our parents to go through the district volunteer screening and we need more parents with the food handlers license.
We will talk to you all next week.

Hello Wrestlers and Wrestling Parents,

Heading into our 2022/23 CHS Wrestling season, we need the support of our wrestling families. We would like each family to commit to 4-5 hours of volunteer service to support our coaches and athletes. Volunteering is a way to connect with other parents and athletes while having fun and gaining a greater knowledge of our sport.
Some volunteer opportunities include:

Concessions & Spirit wear Sales:  Make contacts by working concessions with other families during events. You are able to step away and watch your wrestler.

Score Tables and mat helpers:  Super easy to learn, you'll never be left alone.  You just keep score and check in wrestlers.

Photographers: Take pictures of all things wrestling at events...wrestlers, coaches, volunteers, trainers, fans... (Pictures must be high resolution.)

Most of the season's events have been added to our signup. Login to sign up for your preferred slots: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0e48abae22a6fac52-chswrestling

All volunteers are required to have a background check through CISD. If you have not previously applied for your background check, please do so here:  https://apps2.winocular.com/coppell/workspace/
For concessions, we are required to have at least one person with a food handlers license on hand. We do need parents with their food handlers license. Please consider having one member or more of your family get this registration. The process is simple and the booster club will reimburse you for the fee.

That course is located here:

We hope to see you all at the parent meeting on November 16th @ 6PM in the Fieldhouse. It's going to be a great season!

Thank you,
Jodi De Santiago

The Coppell wrestling coaches appreciate the support of the community for the sport of wrestling that has greatly impacted their lives for the better.  Coach Lowery has served the community through wrestling for the last 21 years.  He served as the combined Head Girls and Guys coach from the year 2007 through 2022.  This past spring the Athletic Department and Administration decided to separate the staves of Guy and Girls teams to allow for focus on the specific needs of each team.  The staff of the Girls Team now includes Head Coach Ted Witulski, who has served as an Assistant Coach since 2007.  Coach Maxine Lisot has joined the Girls program as Assistant Coach moving from Frisco Independence.  Coach Link Davis previously coached at the collegiate level in Oklahoma and Georgia and served as Head Coach for Plano West in the past year.

The coaches would invite any parents to become further involved with the wrestling programs by joining and supporting the booster clubs and the many year-round programs and activities that wrestling sponsors for the betterment of youth in Coppell.  To find out more please reach out to the many supportive parents who are helping manage and run another successful wrestling competition here in Coppell.  Parents have made a difference by assuring that wrestling continues to grow in relevance in Coppell.  Thank you.

OCTOBER 20, 2022

This year, we are strongly recommending mouth guards for all of our wrestlers. The varsity boys squad has all agreed to wear one.

Top and bottom mouth pieces have been required for any wrestler that has braces for the past 10 years or so but not mandatory equipment for everyone. While we do not have very many dental injuries, the science now shows that mouthguards help prevent concussions.

The style of mouthguard is important for wrestling. We want the wrestlers to have thin, moldable style of appliance. Large, football style, mouthpieces become very uncomfortable and make it hard to breath.

My personal mouthguard is from www.sisuguard.com. They were recommended to me by a college coach. I reached out to the company and they offered us a 15% discount. That, coupled with their free shipping, makes it cheaper than purchasing something from Amazon.

Use this code when ordering from their site: TS-Coppell15

The code is case sensitive. They recommend the 3D or Aero for wrestling. The 3D model is the one that will be an easier fit for wrestlers with braces. They have instructions for molding and specifically for braces as well.

Feel free to research and use any quality mouthguard. Your dentist or orthodontist may also be able to provide custom fit appliances.

Have a great weekend.

In an effort to stream line athletic paperwork, Coppell ISD is offering online forms. At the beginning of each school year, it is mandatory that all student-athletes fill out the appropriate UIL and Coppell ISD paperwork before they will be allowed to practice or tryout.

The UIL released a new Pre-Participation Physical form effective in 2017.  This MEDICAL HISTORY FORM must be completed annually by parent (or guardian) and student in order for the student to participate in athletic activities.  It must be turned into their sport’s coach on their campus before the first practice or tryout.  This piece of paper must be signed by the physician, parent, and student-athlete.

Please visit https://coppellisd.rankonesport.com/ to complete the following forms:

UIL Acknowledgement of Rules
Emergency Information Form
UIL Cardiac Awareness Form
UIL Concussion Form
UIL Steroid Form
CISD Athletic Handbook
ECG Consent Form
HS Extracurricular Pledge

IMPORTANT: The actual hard copy of the Pre-Participation Physical must still be turned in to the coach before practice/tryouts. It must be signed by the 1) physician 2) parent/guardian 3) student-athlete.
